Built In Webcam Not Working.?Hey, I have an ASUS Laptop thats about 4 years old. I recently acquired it from my brother, and when we cleared the hard drive, etc, and reinstalled the OS, It showed the Webcam drivers in my Programs section. When I tried to use said Webcam on Skype, it wasn't detected. I found out it mysteriously dissapeared from my Programs section, when I clearly remember seeing something with Asus Webcam in its name.Im really stuck and have been trying for a good month now with how to 'find' this Webcam inside my programs again. I can clearly see it as well, its directly above my screen.I really need help, please.Forgot to Mention, my Laptop is theASUS Notebook N80vb N80VM SeriesAnd I've checked, and it clearly states 'Built-In Webcam'. If you can't find it in Device Manager (either by name or at least reference to an unknown or 'Other' device error in dev mgr) then Windows can't detect the cam hardware.

Meaning it's turned off (if it has an on/off switch) It's disabled in BIOS (you can check but don't know if cams have a bios option) or the cam hardware has failedAre other usb devices being detected? Here's a long shot but it's easy to try.
Power down computer. Remove battery. Unplug from AC. Let it sit overnight. Plug in and try again in the morning. I can see the driver data listed. See if the device is displayed in Device Manager.
Open Device Manager (see ). Scroll down to and expand the Image category by clicking the + sign to its left.
Is your webcam listed? (i think it might be named 'Acer Orbicam').
Do you see any yellow icons appear with any devices? Also, please list any Problem Devices. Make sure devices are connected and powered on. Click Start-Run, enter: msinfo32.
Click the + sign next to Components to expand it. Click Problem Devices. Anything appear?. If yes, click on it, Ctrl-A to select all, Ctrl-C to copy it, Ctrl-V to paste into next post. On the other hand, if no devices are listed, tell me so.
Per my last post, you should still look in Device Manager to see if your cam appears under the Image or an Other device category. Here's why.By default, Device Manager only displays devices that Windows can currently detect. So, if you can't find the cam listed in Device Manager then it's probably failed (or it's turned off if it has a power on/off switch). Based on the driver data you posted earlier, if the cam's detected I believe it will appear in Device Manager named 'Acer Orbicam' and would appear in the Image device category. If it's not there it's not working.

StefiThe only place worth checking is Device Manager to see if your web cam is listed. If it is not listed then it's either turned off (if it has an on/off switch) or it is broken and you need to buy a new cam.

Open Device Manager (click for instruction) Look for the 'Imaging Devices' category (see example below). Click the + sign to expand it. Is your cam listed? In example, you can see a cam listed. If no cam is listed, it's probably broken and you need a new one (the driver is loaded but that does no good if the web cam is broken)/. edit./p.s. If you can't even find an Imaging device category in Device Manager, that means Windows can't find any imaging devices on your computer and your cam is not detected or listed. You can also look if an 'Other' category exists.
If it does, also look there for any cam. HelpHi LookingAroundI've been browsing through these pages and tried following some suggestions and yet all were unsuccessful.1) The hardware is fine (i think) because it works fine on my laptop but the problem is that I want to install it on my desktop. It says the device is working properly2) After install, uninstalling, reinstalling the driver (from the cd it came with) all I get is a black/green picture3) I can't seem to find a suitable driver, even after scouring the web using the hardware id/compatible id.
I've even went to the website of the manufacturer and downloaded the amcap driver but to no avail.I really, really hope you can help me on this. Hi Cam33I applaud your effort. Looks like you've already done quite a bit of work on this problem!
Unfortunately, i can't find any driver for that hardware id eitherA couple questions1) What version of Windows is on the laptop that works? Is it 32 or 64 bit?2) And something to check and compare between the cam drivers on both your laptop and desktop. On each computer, open Device Manager, rt click the cam, Properties-Details.

In the pull down menu, scroll down to and select Matching ID. This will tell us which ID the driver matches. I wonder if your desktop is using the Windows 7 64bit generic driver. Maybe Windows doesn't like the driver from the CD so it's not selecting it.
