Changes made from version 6.15.7 to 6.15.11:. Improved performance for custom draw elements. Made sure waypoints of type 'Geotagged Photo' don't crash MapSource. Allowed the import and export of unlock codes. Made sure unlocking changes get propagated without needing to restart the application. Phone numbers that were imported from gpx files were not written back out again.
This is now fixed. Added support for enhanced map security. Fixed unlocking issue. Implemented Asian 6-level address search. Improved trimming performance for some Asian map products. What about 3rd party locked maps?I might suggest a caution to people not to upgrade if they.bought.
third party maps based on what I saw on some other forums, until the (3rd party locked) map authors updated their products.Unfortunately, this is really a cgpsmapper problem, not a Garmin problem. Garmin have confirmed they had no intent to cause this problem, but probably cannot fix it. Garmin changed the locking system for new maps and tightened up security to reduce piracy. CGPSmapper has been using FIDs that are not within the allowable range set by Garmin. As it is a non-dislosed and proprietary format, this is bound to happen when making software from reverse engineering.
If you aren't up for VMware. Try Basecamp. It only crashes once every 15 minutes, and up to now hasn't crashed when I was sending a mapset. Also, unless you have locked maps, you can probably create gmapsupp.IMGs with Sendmap2.0.Which is fine if all the maps your sending are visible in basecamp.I'm using Basecamp in Win7. Showing my ignorance here. Are there maps that are visible in MapSource that aren't in Basecamp? Everything I've installed shows up both places, like both programs were reading the same registry settings.

I'm sure there are others. Any map without DEM data will not show up in basecamp but will work just fine with mapsource.

Mac OSx –Windows:Why to not use Garmin Mapsource anymore!Attention - I do not recommend to use Mapsource anymore except for sending maps to older generation devices!Some reasons:a) It's not developed anymore since 2010b) It does not show OpenMTBMap or VeloMap contourlines! (it will send them though to your device)c) It has no proper database to store tracks or routes - yes undertanding the concept of the database in Basecamp is not easy - but once you got it, it is pretty well done!So why would you still use Mapsource?Well to send maps to older generation devices like Vista HCx or GPSMaps 60CSx or even older. Basically to all devices that only support a single gmapsupp.img file! The advantage is that with Mapsource you can select the region on fullscreen - instead of the small popup screen of Basecamp/MapInstaller.
Also it will display you a list of all selected tiles - this can be useful for debugging (though normal users don't need this).Another reason would be that Garmin Mapsource has a search function that is identical to your GPS Device. The most popular is still Garmin Mapsource - even though it is superseeded by Garmin Basecamp and also Qlandkarte GT is on the way to overtake it.
Garmin Mapsource is not develloped anymore, but version 6.16.3 runs still pretty well and has no big bugs. There is a catch however. Garmin only provides updates, no actual installation packages. Therfore below I describe two ways how you can install Mapsource legally nevertheless.People who have bought a Garmin GPS will have a CD shipped with it including Mapsource. I recommend to use the most uptodate version by Garmin (as of writing this is 6.16.3)Earlier versions of Mapsource (also 6.13.6) are now incompatible with the openmtbmaps as they do not show all ways and streets!!!!
Use at least 6.16.1 or higher. Note that while Basecamp shows contourlines, Garmin Mapsource doesn't. Go to and download the map(s) of your choice and install at least one map!. Download latest MapSource from Garmin ( ). Unpack or extract the content of setupMapSource.exe using 7zip , WinRAR or another good unpacker. From the extracted files, first run MAIN.msi. Then, run Setup.exe. Note: The sequence to execute Main.msi and then Setup.exe is important to avoid “Previous MapSource not found!” error. Garmin MapSource is now installed.

If you use the creategmapsupp script – just rename the gmapsupp and put it also on your mSD card – no worries. Just make sure not to install too many maps – I would stick with max 6-10GB at a time (it’s enough to rename to e.g. Gmapsupp.img.bak to completely deactivate a map on mSD – deactivating in map menu is not enough). In Basecamp if you have several maps installed you can select the maps with the map selector toolbar. Hi,I am facing the with overlapping map in border region. So currently I choose the specific tiles via mapinstall fitting to my hometrails reachable for a day trip.Overall the Europe map looks to big to me.What I would prefer is only to download the maps I really need and merge the ones causing issues with overlapping. “NRW”, “Rheinland-Pfalz”, Netherlands and Belgium.Other option I was thinking about is to have presets for the tiles choosen.
