408. 1/3 Scale Ercoupe (415-D)Ultimate Series Giant Scale KitThis classic aircraft was designed in 1937, its life span was estimated to be only 10 years. However, 2600 'Coupes' are still flying today! Balsa USA is proud to offer this 'True to Scale' kit that is as easy to build as it is to fly!

Hi Jorden,I think Buzz was having some problems with his ignition overheating, i.e. Vent problem I think. Was wondering if he used baffles around the cowl intakes, and if that would help. I have my Coupe to the point where I am mounting my 3w-56, and could use some of Buzz's tips here since the engine must mount with the rear carb thru the firewall and into the fuse.

Did you remove the carb housing? Also, info on the throttle servo mounting and linkage as well as the choke linkage. Some pictures would be great.Ronniesebo 11:20 PM. Back working on the Ercoupe.

At least I can get more satisfaction out of that than watching the 2-6 Redskins tank every Sunday. Here are a few pics of the progress of the right wing panel. At this point I need to apply the upper cap strips, outer leading edge, and then I'll be ready to sand and shape the wing. At that point I'll need to add the servo and it'll be done, and then it will be time to move on to the left wing panel. Also is a pic of the small protractor I'm using to set my angles for the gussets and the cap strips. As you see, it's set to 30 degrees (or 60 degrees depending on how you look at it) which seems to work well for both of them.JKEpps 09:22 AM. Hey JordanThanks for sharing your building experience!I have the same kit waiting on a shelve. Bought it, because I am in love with the Coupe. But figured, it would be wise to wait until my flying abilities improved so I could move on to a plane of this scale.Currently I am hesitating whether I should build a 1/4 Super Cub or the Ercoupe. Will let your report sink in and see what my feelings tell me.;)Anyway, I liked your confession saying you were a slow builder. Finally, I have found a companion out there!:eek:Everybody else posting their building threads, seems to advance at an incredible pace!To calm my mind, I always tell myself that those guys must be retired.

For certain, they only get up in the morning toenjoy breakfast, read the newspaper and then have nothing else to do than spend their whole day in the hobby room building.Don't anyone tell me that this is not the case, you understand?!!! :Now, seriously: Jordan, I hope you like the Ercoupe build and will be following it anxiously from over here in Switzerland.Good luck!MattJKEpps 12:53 AM. ORIGINAL: DMichaelJordan,I am enjoying seeing your build as it progresses.

Now that 'building season' is here maybe you'll see some substantial progress in the next few months. At least you will get more done than Dr Death. (just kiddin' Lee). Can't wait to see it fly.DaveFunny Guy, just noticed this:D. I will have you know, I finished up an Extra 260, T-Rex and finally the P-47 which I no longer want :o. Well, almost. I need to start the Spacewalker before the season gets here. Been too cold in my shop.DDJKEpps 10:43 PM.

OK, I've finally finished building the wing panels, the center section and the ailerons. Whay is it always the small finishing touched that take the longest amount of time, but show the least amount of progress. Anyway here are a few pics of the completed wing assembled and apart. You can see that there is a 4 foot level across the wing.

The wing actually dwarfs it! The wing uses an aluminium square tube to secure the panels.

I'm using Hitec 565MG servos in each wing. They get mounted close to the center section with a direct linkage. Now it's time to move onto the next four parts to build, the horizontal stabilizer, elevator, rudders and fins.-JordenDrDeath 08:33 AM. Well I had a very busy weekend.

We all drove down to Tuskegee, Alabama to visit my son who is a student at Tuskegee University. The drive was great and the weather cooperated, for the most part. It got extremely foggy in the early hours of Sunday morning, otherwise it was uneventful weatherwise. As you all know I'm building an Ercoupe. I've been trying to find a nice color scheme to put on it.

I wanted one that was unique, and had some military flavor to it. During my search, I came across Ercoupe.net.

On there are many pics of Ercoupes. I came across photos of N3383H which are the first two pics below. I decided that was the color scheme I wanted to go with. After a quick search of the registration number, I came up with the owner's name and where the plane was kept.

That was months ago. I figured that as the time to complete the plane got closer, I'd make a photo research trip down to North Carolina to see the plane. Well, as luck would have it, you have to pass through North Carolina to get to Alabama, go figure. I contacted the owner, Mr.

Day, and asked if I could come see the plane. He is a very nice gentleman, who didn't know me from a can of paint, and immediately agreed to let me see it. I had to wait until my return trip, but I was excited.

My only problem was trying to leave Alabama early enough to catch daylight at the field. Day told me that the plane was housed in a hangar, and could come out to meet me if I wanted him to. As luck would have it, by the time we got to the airport it was pitched dark, and all operations had closed for the day. I had tried unsuccessfully to reach Mr. Day during the drive to the airport, so I thought my efforts were in vain. When I got there, I called him one more time, and did get to talk to him. He said he'd come right out to let me in the hangar to see the plane.

20 minutes later he was there and showing me the plane. It looks much better in person than it did in the pics. I'm adding a few more of them so hopefully you can see what I mean.

You'll also see Mr. Day in one of the pics too posing with his Ercoupe. All in all, it was a great trip!-JordenJKEpps 09:59 PM.
